What You Must Know...
If you or your loved one is unable to move or has a reduction in mobility you need to be aware of the dangers of pressure sores.
With the proper prevention, change of position, a healthy diet, clean and dry skin, and the assistance of a home health nurse you can prevent sores from occuring or help heal a current sore.
A nurse can train you or a family member to assist with wound care. It is important to note that dressing (bandage) changes and wound care should be assessed by a physician and performed by a nurse
Learner objectives:
1) Understand what causes and how to prevent pressure sores.
2) Know how to recognize the different stages of a pressure sore.
3) Understand what kinds of dressings you will see if a nurse is caring for a wound and teaches you or a loved one how to perform the cares.
